YMS (Yard Management System)
A YMS tracks trailers, drivers, and dock doors inside a shipper or receiver yard to cut dwell time and detention.
A Yard Management System is the layer between TMS (what's en route) and WMS (what's in the warehouse). It tracks which trailers are at which doors, which spots, with which freight, and for how long.
Common features: dock-door scheduling, gate check-in/out (sometimes via RFID or license-plate cameras), driver mobile app for in-yard moves, and dwell-time analytics that surface bottlenecks.
For carriers, YMS integration matters because it gives you accurate detention timestamps that shippers can't dispute.
