USDOT vs MC number — what's the difference?
A USDOT number identifies any commercial vehicle in FMCSA's safety system. An MC (Motor Carrier) number is operating authority — required for interstate for-hire carriers hauling regulated commodities. Most carriers have both; intrastate-only fleets often have just a USDOT.
