TONU (Truck Order Not Used)
TONU is the fee a carrier charges when a shipper cancels a load after the truck is already dispatched.
Truck Order Not Used compensates a carrier for the deadhead and lost-opportunity cost when a shipper cancels a tender after the carrier has committed equipment. Industry standard is $150-$250 flat, though contracts vary.
Carriers should encode TONU in their accessorial schedule and bill it within 24 hours — late-billed TONUs are commonly refused. ELD geofence data + dispatch logs make TONU disputes much easier to win.
